Whether you're like me and love to cook but are far from a chef, or are someone very comfortable in the kitchen with more intense recipes, this blog is for you.
You don’t have to go to a fine restaurant to get chef quality food. Just about anything you can get at a sit down restaurant, you can get from a food truck. You have choices of ethnic foods, BBQ and things you may have never heard of before.
The other night I saw a show featuring a food truck by the ocean. The signature food was fresh caught fish and shell fish from the area. It seemed that the people not only raved about the food but also thought the location and view were fantastic.
When the shows host interviewed the cooks and owners of the rigs, they all seemed to not only enjoy what they were doing but would not go back to their former occupation. There were bankers, lawyers, mechanics and just about any trade exchanged what they did before for their own business.
Some of the people running the kitchen were not just good cooks but trained chefs. They had the techniques and knowledge of a great restaurant chef. The dished they prepared rivaled any sit down restaurants food.
Some of the people just did not have the big bucks to open a sit down restaurant. They knew how to set up an efficient kitchen. It was easy to build a business out of a food truck.
Having their own rolling restaurant the cooks or chefs were able to play with the food and come up with some unusual but tasty and wonderful concoctions. Unless you are the owner or have the freedom to innovate, a sit down restaurant has a set menu with little room to explore.
There are some very innovative truck designs. One that sold mostly pork BBQ was decked out as a pig. When it came down the street it looked like a pigs head approaching. There were several trucks with fantastic graphics. The designs usually were able to give a sense of the food offered.
There was one show that featured a single man in a very small trailer making crepes. Because he took the orders, fixed the food and took the money it was a slow process. No one seemed to mind the wait. He had a product that was unique.
The shows feature food trucks all over the country. A lot of the trucks featured ethnic foods from around the area. I think that almost every type of ethnic food was made. The customers were in tune with the variety of foods offered from different lands.
The most popular food truck seemed to feature hamburgers and BBQ. The variety of hamburgers were as big as the imagination of the creators. Some of the burgers were big and tall with just about any topping you could imagine. The BBQ trucks seemed to feature more traditional fare.
One of the more unique foods for my taste was waffles and fried chicken. I like waffles and I like chicken. To me the mix is like sugar and vinegar. The people raved about the combination.
